The Way Forward. Double Crimps for Sea Rigs

We have just got in a sample of some double crimps for mono and were all a little excited by them. You can use them effectivily for your clips, links and hooks and you can actually name a full rig without any knots. Rather impressive.
Our first tests show that they will hold under quite a lot of pressure, probably more than 95% of people can muster.

The first double crimps coming in next week will take mono upto 60lb and hopefully in the short future we will get some in to take 80lb.

Keep an eye on my blog I will post when they are in stock. They should be selling at £2.99 for 50.

Using Weedless Hooks

Weedless hooks are a very effective way of fishing in weedy or snaggy areas either on the boat or from the shore.
'Fishing Weedless' is a relatively new technique and once you learn it you wont stop using it. I see it growing well from the shore but I think when boat anglers really get to grips with it they wont use anything else over wrecks.

The hooks come either loose, weighted as weedless jig hooks to cover most fishing situations.

I have made a quick video on how to set them up. Its simple.

Lure Fishing Techniques & Tips

Hi Guys,
When your starting out on the lure scene it seems like there is a mine field of 'Lure Jargon' which makes you wonder whether your fishing correctly and using the correct lures. It sure had me baffled, but with a bit of time and quite a bit of reading I soon learnt the different techniques to use with different lures.
I was trolling the net the other day and came accross some american youtube videos which give you a real good insight of different lure techniques.
Hopefully these will help you all in becoming 'pro lure anglers' :)

One of the best 'knot guide' sites I have seen

The Animated knots site is probably the best place to go to learn and perfect your fishing knots. It shows and describes step by step guides to various fishing knots.
Have a browse

Delalande Agrafe Clips for Lures, Pretty impressive

Hi Guys,
There is a lot of debate about which clips are the best to use. There are so many of them on the market it can be a mine field picking which one is best suit for you.
For me its easy. I have used many clips but without a doubt the Delalande Agrafe clips win hands down. They come in 3 sizes, and make life effortless when changing your lures.
We currently sell them in packets of 6 for £2.99.

Take a look at a quick video I made below on how easy they are to use.

What tackle you will need for fishing in Norway or Icceland

Hi Guys,
Below I have compiled a few deals and some advice about what you will need to take to Norway to make your trip a success. If you have any questions please email.

Rod & Reels Deals

Penn Powerstix Pro 20/30lb, 4PC

Rovex Altus

RRP £119.97  SALE PRICE £99.99

Shimano Exage 20/30lb, 4pc

Shimano TLD 15

RRP £179.98, SALE PRICE £169.99

The terminal tackle and bits is pretty straight forward. You will need the following at a minimum -

  • Large shads. The Savage Gear cutbaits are the best. I would recommend a minimum of 4 packets per person. The best colours are Herring, Redfish, Puffin and Glow.
  • Braid. 50lb to 80lb is generally seen as an average strength. The Power Pro is the best we sell at £29.99. They also do a Power Pro Depth hunter which allows you to find out what depth of water the fish are at and get straight back to them on the next drop. We do have other braids in stock from £16.99 (Spiderwire EZ Braid) that will definitely do the job.
  • Swivels. Okuma Norweigan snaps and Gerrys size 2 power swivels are all you will need.
  • Leader/Snoods. I would recommend you use Stren Flurocarbon. Its quite pricey at £9.99 per spool but its bloody good stuff and wont let you down.
  • Rigs. We do a selection of high quality rigs specifically made for Norway, (Minimum 4 rigs per person) They all target the fish in different ways. There is an effective live bait rig where you hook a small coal fish first on a grub and there is a bigger hook above it for the Cod that eats your bait fish. The best rig we sell is the Imax Nordic Squid rig. It has a flashing light in the end of the squid. They are deadly.
  • Pirks/Jigs. (Minimum 4 Jigs) You will need a selection of Chomat Pirks,  Sea bouncers and Williamson Abyss Jigs. All around the 300G weight. The colours dont make much difference out there its mainly the action they produce. You will also need Strong Split rings.
  • Hooks. Trebles make sure they are 10/0 or 12/0. Assist hooks stay with the 8/0 size.
You donĂ¢?™t need to buy mountains of terminal tackle because its rare that you loose anything because you wont fish at the bottom but the above is a good start.

Savage Gear Lip Sculls & 4 play off set trebles

We have stocked the savage gear hook range for quite some time but until now, I haven't had chance to properly get to grips with them.

We will start with the lip sculls. This new design allows anyone to rig up or change a loose shad in a matter on seconds. The design features a diving bill which should take the shad down to around the 1.5M mark when retrieved. It has a split ring to clip your line to and most importantly a razor sharp treble hanging below.
The shad is attached by simply pushing a supplied stake through 2 holes and the shad fixing it in place. After doing this you can fish straight away.

You only figure out just how good and effective these are after using them. After a few hook ups your shad soon gets slashed and looses its action so its time to change. Due to the design, changing the shad takes about 10 seconds. Simply pulling the stake out and inserting a new shad and then your fishing again.
The Lip sculls come in packs of 2 in 3 sizes (Small, Medium, Large) to fit shads between 3 and 8 inches.
Pack price £4.99

The Second product is less sold but is actually a more effective way of hooking up loose shads, but it does take a little longer to do.
The 4 Play off set treble packs are basically an improved version of the wires found in pre hooked shads. The benefits of this design is that it is very sturdy and the rig shouldn't move at all when set in place.
Rigging these up requires a little more time and concentration than the lip sculls but provides you with a better quality set up. You will firstly need to place the rig next to your shad to measure up.
Once measured push a thin knife of scissor blade through the centre of the shad and push the vertical wire through. Next you will need to make 2 further piercings. The first through the nose of the shad and the second beneath the shad at the same place that the rig bends 90 degrees upwards. Once you have done this simply thread the horizontal wire on the rig through and you done. it should look similar to the picture below.

Rigging your shad this way allows you to keep maximum movement of the shad and still be confident that after the fish is hooked it wont come off.
The 4 play offset rigs are supplied in packets of 3 for only £3.99.
This will be something I will be keeping in the box from now on.
